We are currently looking for a

System Software Engineer - GCC/LLVM Compiler, Tooling, and Ecosystem

in EMEA.

In this role, you’ll be part of a global engineering team focused on shaping the future of modern C and C++ programming on one of the world’s most widely used Linux distributions.

You’ll contribute to optimizing the GCC and LLVM toolchains, ensuring developers have access to the most advanced and reliable compiler technologies.

This position involves collaboration with leading open-source contributors, deep technical problem‑solving, and delivering innovations that impact millions of users and developers across cloud, desktop, and embedded environments.

Accountabilities

Collaborate proactively with a distributed, international team to design, package, and integrate GCC and LLVM tooling for enhanced developer experience.

Develop and maintain high‑quality, efficient, and reliable code for compiler‑related tools and supporting runtimes.

Debug, test, and optimize components within large‑scale Linux‑based environments.

Review and contribute to peer code, ensuring high engineering standards across the project.

Mentor junior engineers and participate in design discussions to guide technical decisions.

Work closely with other teams to ensure smooth integration of toolchains across different platforms.

Engage in occasional global travel (2‑4 weeks per year) for internal events, collaboration sprints, or conferences.

Requirements

Proven experience with GCC or LLVM, preferably in cloud‑native or Linux environments.

Strong background in C and C++ development, with deep knowledge of compilers, runtimes, and toolchains.

Experience in packaging software for Debian or Ubuntu distributions.

Familiarity with Linux system internals and open‑source development practices.

A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent technical field (or a strong professional track record).

Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

A passion for open‑source technology, innovation, and continuous learning.

Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for team gatherings or company events.
